Online broadcaster Sean Plunket won the Bill Toft Award 2024 with an opinion piece on social issues broadcast on The Platform.
The judges said:
This entry shows the power of online radio to deliver compelling ‘theatre of the mind,’ without visuals, script, or other production elements. Sean Plunket’s confident broadcasting displays immediacy, courage, and ability to spark a reaction.
The Awards runner up is Alexa Cook.
The judges commended Alexa Cook’s reportage on TV3 Newshub as runner up to the Award. The judges said: Alexa’s entry shows adventurous, assured reporting displaying factual strengths, physicality, and empathy.
Swampy Marsh, member of the Bill Toft Award judges panel, said the high standard of entries across vastly different genres illustrated the depth of broadcasting in New Zealand.
